A Review of the Goods

I’ve been trying, I mean really trying, to get behind shampoo bars. They’re definitely more sustainable, and are often made of better-for-your-hair ingredients. But shampoo bars aren’t nearly as nice or convenient to use. They stick up your shower ledge, slip out of your hands, and wear through too quickly. This bar set might make up for those issues.

So for starters, it lathers up almost as well as liquid shampoo, and that’s good enough for me. Your hair feels really clean after use, if a tad bit squeaky. Using it was a breeze! It’s incredible what redesigning the shape can do–the Hibar shampoo and conditioner are easy to hold and lather, and they don’t slip around all over the shower. It does still gunk up the the shelf some, but they do also offer wooden stands (at an added cost) to hold your bars and stop the slippage.

I opted for the volumizing variety, but you can choose soothing, moisturizing, or maintaining (for color treated hair) depending on your needs. Does it add more volume to my hair than other “volumizing” shampoos? No, but I’m not sure a volumizing shampoo has ever done anything. It’s the effort, right?

The conditioner’s main ingredients include cocoa seed butter and African dates, and is perfect! The conditioner is soft and leaves no residue, and performs as well as any other I’ve tried. The glowing reviews for the color treated conditioner are all I need to suggested this to any unnaturally fair-haired friends.

Overall, the ease of liquid shampoo is hard to beat, and while traveling I’ll probably revert to water laden shampoos. But HiBar has convinced me to nix the shower containers at home. Hopefully, it can for you, too.
